Originally released in 2008, Spanish apocalyptic thriller Before the Fall is coming to Digital tomorrow, December 12, with a new 4K restoration from Chroma.
Watch the restored trailer below, where you’ll also find a new poster illustrated by Hans Woody.
Known in its native Spanish as 3 días, the movie marked the feature directorial debut of F. Javier Gutiérrez (Rings), who wrote the script with Juan Velarde.
In the film, the world learns that an earth-shattering meteorite will collide with Earth in 72 hours. As global systems collapse and society descends into chaos, aimless drifter Ale plans to spend his last three days drinking and blasting records, until the arrival of a mysterious stranger forces him to confront a more immediate threat.
What begins as a fatalistic countdown to impact shifts into a taut serial killer thriller as Ale races to protect his mother and his brother’s children, discovering what kind of person he’s willing to be at the end of the world.
Víctor Clavijo, Mariana Cordero, and Eduard Fernández star.
“Before the Fall is a major cinematic work,” shares executive producer Antonio Banderas. “Its limited resources never diminish its bold, science-fiction creativity.”
“Before the Fall is, at its core, a story of redemption, highlighting the darkness and fragile beauty of human nature, and the choices that reveal who we truly are when the world around us collapses.” says Gutiérrez. “Chroma’s 4K restoration finally lets audiences experience the film as I originally envisioned it — an apocalyptic nightmare that feels mythic yet real.”
“Before the Fall is one of those rare films that feels even more urgent today than when it was first released,” adds Chroma VP Ahbra Perry. “This restoration not only preserves a landmark work of Spanish genre cinema, it amplifies its emotional power. We’re thrilled to bring Javier’s vision back to audiences with the clarity and intensity it has always deserved.”
Master of horror Wes Craven was a noted fan of Before the Fall, intending to helm an American remake that never came to fruition before his passing.
