Following its acquisition by Chroma for a multi-platform rollout, sci-fi thriller Decibel gets a tense first trailer today that we're excited to give you an exclusive first look at.
Directed by Zac Locke (#Float) and starring Aleyse Shannon (Black Christmas), Stefanie Estes (Soft & Quiet) and Colby Groves, Decibel follows a struggling singer-songwriter who gets the opportunity of a lifetime to work with a tech-obsessed music producer. Her art and life are put in peril as she is forced to help create the perfect A.I. music algorithm.
Decibel also includes original songs by Caitlin Scholl and music production by Groves. Shannon performs her own vocals, all of which were recorded live on set, lending the film an authenticity and emotional weight that earned Decibel the Best Sound Award at FilmQuest.

In an interview with MovieMaker, Locke expanded on the film's comments on the ever-more pressing issues of A.I., particularly in creative spaces:
“We talked about A.I. a little bit on set and in pre-production and post-production. But really we talked about those kind of bigger issues that I think all of us, probably, in this room, feel to a certain extent every day […] And if you don't, you're lucky.”
Chroma's acquisition of Decibel follows the label's other recent nabs, the seductive Fantastic Fest culinary killer thriller Dinner to Die For, and SXSW sci-fi noir The Infinite Husk. Here's what Ahbra Perry, VP of Chroma, has to say about the latest addition to genre slate:
“Decibel is exactly the kind of daring, inventive story Chroma stands for. It’s compelling, original, and creatively fearless. This film immediately jumped out to lead our slate of new releases.”
“We set out to make a film that’s as thrilling as it is thought-provoking, exploring what happens when art and technology collide, and Chroma is the perfect partner to bring that vision to audiences. Our team is incredibly honored to be among their first releases, and we can’t wait for people to experience Decibel.
Decibel will be released on November 7, 2025 on Apple TV and Fandango, followed by an SVOD release on Amazon Prime Video beginning December 1, 2025. Check out our exclusive trailer and poster below:
